Big night in oakland

Dan Miller
A CHEZ PANISSE-STYLE dinner served in an art gallery and then, in the same space, an intimate concert by the Kronos Quartet: Are you reaching for your wallet to buy tickets?
Well, the coolest part of the Creative Growth Gala is that ticket sales will benefit Oakland’s unusual and acclaimed art space, Creative Growth, a center for artists with developmental, physical, and emotional disabilities. (Artist Dan Miller’s Pear is pictured below.)
The gala features a four-course meal, with menu selections by Alice Waters and Patricia Curtan and preparations by Chez Panisse alum Tasha De Serio, owner of Olive Green Catering. Wine will be provided by Livermore’s Murrieta’s Well winery.
After dessert, enjoy the Kronos Quartet right in the gallery. Admired for such film soundtracks as Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain, the quartet has been known to sell out such East Bay venues as Zellerbach Hall and the Paramount Theatre.
Creative Growth Gala, May 16, 6:30 p.m., $150 minimum donation. 355 24th St., Oakland, (510) 836-2340, www.creativegrowth.org .
